I have a dumb question, and was hoping someone here could help me out. I'm a new voter (my first vote was Kerry!) and I am hearing all this talk on the radio about the primaries coming up, and the April ballot initiative to ban (or not) gay marriage. Do I get to vote in this (I'm in Marshall County), and do I have to re-register to vote in the primaries or this ballot initiative? Where can I find out more about what will be contained on the ballot?

Yes, I went to school in rural Kansas, and no, we didn't cover this in Civics. :)

1. You will still be registered. Election issues for your county should

be covered in the local papers before the election. They usually print voter info.

2. As long as you vote

in most elections, you will continue to be registered. My husband only votes in the presidential elections every four years and he is always still registered.

3. As I recall you have to miss

at least one, and maybe two presidential elections to have your name removed from the voter rolls. And not even then that doesn't always happen.

What April ballot initiative about gay marriage? I thought they were still arguing about it in the legislature?

There will also be very few races in most jurisdictions in April, because not very many of the races will be contested.

Come to think of it, where I am, in Johnson County, I believe the primary date at least for city council races, is March. The general election is in April. I think. Maybe it varies across the state.
