LTTE: KC Star - The Offense of Selective Offense
I am offended by letter writers who are offended by violations of what they decree is dogma. In their reactions to bridal gowns for pregnant brides, they need to learn the distinction between what actually is dogma and what are extrapolations of Jewish social law.

Where in the Nicene Creed does it say “We believe in marriage before pregnancy”? Where in the Ten Commandments does it say “Thou shall not bear children outside of marriage”? Where in the single commandment of the New Testament does it say, “Love only if you are married”? What about the child Jesus, who was conceived out of wedlock? If marriage is so essential to child bearing, why was it not even sanctified by “the Church” until the 16th century? Are these offended letter writers aware that at least some couples have serious fertility problems and there are heavy tax penalties for childless married couples?

Certainly, any rational person recognizes the practical problems that harm children conceived out of wedlock. IF such problems are their real concern, I and others would support those who are so offended by pregnancy bridal gowns more if they could be somewhat less selective in the offense they take by amending their acceptance of something else that “millions of Americans consider a mortal sin”, something else that actually is a violation of creed and moral law: the Blasphemy of killing others in un-Just Wars of Choice.
