KC DUers: please come help support a Marine vet this weekend |
|
Adam Kokesh is being threatened with losing his honorable discharge because of his involvement with the peace community. He wore his uniform to a rally in March and his picture was taken and published in the Wash Post. That triggered this attempt by the Marines to revoke his discharge.
Remember the Marine who held up the sign counting the number of times Gonzalez said "I don't recall" at his hearing about a month ago? That was Adam.
Adam's hearing is Monday at the Marine Corps office at Richards Gebaur. We will be having a pot luck dinner for Adam and his fellow vets on Sunday following our vigil on the Plaza. Please join us at 4:00 at Nichols Fountain at 47 and Main and then come across the street to Community Christian Church for dinner.
We also need supporters at Richards Gebaur at noon on Monday. Please circulate this email to all your contacts.
Let's show Adam a wonderful Kansas City welcome! He is coming with a busload of vets who are coming from DC on the peace bus to support him. Some are friends of mine from Camp Casey. This is a great bunch of activists and I am excited to welcome them to my city.
I was shocked to hear Mike Shanin on 980 am radio this afternoon talking about this and he thinks Adam is being unfairly targeted. I am sure this is the first time I have ever agreed with Mike Shanin on anything!
There is likely to be lots of media attention focused on Kansas City this weekend. Let's show the world that we have a GREAT peace community here. It would also be nice if we could change some minds about that whole What's the Matter With Kansas idea!
Peace!
