--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Until this semester, the Vickers Memorial Lecture Series has been a valuable part of intellectual life at the University of Kansas. Some students, myself included, may disagree with the conservative ideas that most Vickers lecturers express. But there is no denying that the past speakers have been first-rate.

In the past, students have heard from the first President Bush, Supreme Court justice Sandra Day O’Connor and the late Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin.

One does not need to share the opinions of these individuals to respect them and their service to society

1. Understandable.
Make sure this gets media coverage. Ann Coulter is a traitorous villain, as she calls for the "elimination of liberals".
She is obviously suffering from some sort of mental disorder, but that doesn't let her off the hook. Words have meaning, and her words will lead to her ultimate demise.

2. So she a wrote a book or two that got spammed onto the NYT bestseller list
And she has a column. And she is funded by Scaife and Horowitz.

Not exactly service to society. She could be an interesting person to put under a microscope and examine the role she plays in the propaganda machinery.

Propagandizers are given way too much credit these days.

3. Ann Coulter is totally inappropriate for anything.
However, I disagree with the comparison to Rall and Moore. I don't ever recall either of them advocating the death of anyone, though Rall tends to push the limits with his obsession with Bush.

4. I Caught That Too
Liberals don't need to self-flagellate just to criticize the likes of Man Coulter. I also didn't like this sentence: 'Liberals have their versions of Coulter in commentators like Ted Rall and Michael Moore, who rely on name-calling, sweeping generalizations and outright falsehoods,' thereby giving the taint of lies to everything MM has worked so hard to expose. I'd like to explore the author's 'liberal' credentials a bit more thoroughly.

6. I was not impressed by some of the other Vickers lecturers either
Ken Starr? Mr. Clenis-envy himself.
I am not impressed by William Esrey either, but I suppose as a CEO he may have some business accomplishments. As someone said of Simon - "Simon has simply discovered the trick used with great effectiveness by certain comedians, talk show hosts and punk rock musicians: people of modest talent can attract attention, at least for a while, by being unrelentingly offensive."

Coulter is like that as well.

I also think that statement about Ted Rall is an outright falshood, a sweeping generalization and name-calling. Ted is provacative and far to the left of the mainstream, but I do not think he is a purveyor of either name-calling or outright falsehoods.

7. In my opinion, anyone who thinks its wrong for Churchill to speak
should certainly be against colleges inviting an offensive, bigoted radical like Ann Coulter to spew out her vile hate speech.

But, I can pretty much guarantee that the Phelps crowd will be there.
