A long-serving Republican state senator has officially thrown his hat in the ring to U.S. Rep. Dennis Moore for Kansas’ Third District seat in next year’s election.
Nick Jordan, a 12-year state senator who lives in Shawnee and represents the 10th Senate District, announced his candidacy this week.
“I’ve been encouraged by both moderates and conservatives in the Republican Party to do this for a number of years,” Jordan told the Kansan on Wednesday.
“Dennis (Moore) and Congress have taken a different direction” since Democrats took over the majority in 2006, Jordan said. “Dennis has fallen into voting with the leadership, and the policies they’re putting up, and I think they’re not the best policies for this district.”
