This election be a poll watcher.
This election please volunteer as a poll watcher.

We need to be keeping a sharp eye in the second congressional district for voter caging. As we all know the state Republican party has flat out bragged about doing it.

Voter caging is when you try to convince a voter that you cannot vote in this election, at this place, or that you are not able to vote for any myriad of reasons.

Voter caging is generally targeted at older people, poorer people, service members who are registered in one state but stationed in another, and young people who generally don't know their rights.

In the city of Lawrence we have to be watching for voter caging tactics as well as we can. I will be volunteering here in Leavenworth and maybe, if the state party suggests so, I may go up to Lawrence. I sincerely hope you all poll watch where you live. If I wasn't doing this during the election I would be working the polls, but now is time to volunteer in a different way.

Please, please poll watch on the election!

1. I see Jeremy of Kansas is no longer with us...
but I wanted to say I worked the polls in Lawrence in 2004 and 2006. Douglas county clerk Jamie Shew (who is a Dem) has proved to be very concerned about any type of problems with voting. That's why we still have paper ballots.
We never turned a voter away unless they were at the wrong polling station, and in most cases we did a provisional ballot for them. The same if they hadn't registered beforehand. We gave them a provisional ballot and had them fill out the registration form when they completed their ballot.
