I had to bail out of my caucus line. What a great feeling!

I really wanted to caucus but my wife was out of town and my kids were with my sister and I knew that I'd never get out of there before 9PM and my kids would need to go to bed so I had to bail out. I was in the line to change party affiliation (Independent that always voted Dem but never changed it before)and it stretched from one end of the school to the other. It was an unbelievable sight. This is happening in Kansas!! For the curious, this was at the Mill Valley location in Shawnee. I was a little bummed but what a great reason for having to leave!

This line went to the caucus location. It stretched twice as far in the opposite direction.

3. I suspect that more people bailed

overall than participated in the caucuses four years ago.

We can thank our Republican legislature and our secretary of state Ron Thornburgh that we had a caucus not a primary.

In the 8th Senate District, where I caucused, in 2004 we had fewer than 200 show up. this year, over 1100 wound up caucusing, and I'm sure several hundred people gave up, given how miserable the weather was.

4. I caucused in 25...

Sedgwick County Courthouse. The line stretched almost all the way around the building. They were expecting 250-350, and ended up with close to 1000. It was amazing...a great night to be a Democrat!

5. It sure was inspiring.

I heard a lot of talk in line from people that were registered as Republicans just so that they had "some voice" in the primaries. This election really brought out the hidden Democrats. Let's hope it stays.

6. True, and great for us.

I personally know of several people who reregistered as Dems to participate. Two were friends of mine from work, who both came from long lines of Repugs. Like so many others, they're sick of the BS from the other side of the aisle, and decided that now was the time to step up and make their voices heard. Good to know that people are seeing the light. I've seen a huge Blue resurgence here in KS, and it's a beautiful thing!
