Johnson County GOP craziness.
Oh this has been such fun to watch! The county GOP elected new officers this week. And on the day of the election, they sent letters to all GOP precinct captains who had donated to Democrats or Independents informing them that they had lost their right to vote in the party leadership election. One lady's husband had made a donation to a friend who was running as a Democrat. She lost her vote. Several others had donated to Lisa Benlon, who had switched to run as a Democrat. (And she won her election.) But my favorite was Cindy Neighbor's husband. She is a Democratic state rep. He is a Republican. He donated beverages to a fund raiser for his wife. So he lost his voting rights.

Ronnie Metzger, who was the state rep for the 24th district (he was appointed by the party when the previous rep moved out of town right after election day in 2006) was defeated in the election 2 weeks ago by Mike Slattery, a Democrat. But Ronnie was elected county GOP chair in the party election.

Here is a blog piece about the loyalty oaths and the precinct captains who lost their votes: http://primebuzz.kcstar.com/?q=node/15722

And as Jo Co goes, we can only pray the state GOP follows :)
