Another JoCo Repuke caught stealing signs
Everywhere a sign -- until it's gone

By JIM SULLINGER

The Kansas City Star

Another Johnson County politico has been

charged with stealing a political sign during

last month’s election campaign.

Richard Downing, the campaign manager for

state Sen. Julia Lynn, an Olathe Republican,

appeared today in Olathe Municipal Court

charged with misdemeanor theft.

He was granted a continuance until Dec. 4.

The incident allegedly involving Downing

occurred just before Johnson County

Commissioner John Toplikar received a similar

ticket for taking a sign belonging to

his opponent, Calvin Hayden.

Toplikar was videotaped taking Hayden’s sign.

Downing was photographed by Ed Hayes, the

Kansas and Missouri director of the Minuteman

Civil Defense Corps, a group opposed to illegal

immigration.

2. Not all of Kansas is conservative,
and in the recent election Johnson County tripled its representation in the Kansas State House.

Keep in mind that Kathleen Sebelius, Democrat, is in her second term. If she decides to run for the U.S. Senate in 2010, she'll probably win.
