So is anyone going to challenge Kevin Yoder?
Despite all the substanceless horseshit slung in GD, the task of taking this country back is fundementally a bottom-up process and not a top-down one.

So I'm curious about local efforts to elect good people to Washington. On this side of the state line we're well represented by Cleaver who will probably have another noncompetitive race against Jacob Turk.

It looks like Sen. McCaskill will go uncontested in the primary (although I think that primary is in August, so it's still a little early to close the book on that one. However it's hard to imagine a contender who can hit the trifecta of 1. being able to beat McCaskill in the primary, 2. Being able to win in the GE, and 3. Representing a noticable improvement over McCaskill). So the choice will be between her and whatever freakshow wingnut wins the GOP nomination.

So for someone following things in the KC area, that leaves KS-3 as the wildcard. Yoder is an ineffectual polarizing douchebag who is beatable if the right candidate were to come along to challenge him. So does anybody with their nose to the ground on the other side of the state line know if such a candidate has expressed interest in running?

1. sadly I have to look at politics1 to find out
http://www.politics1.com/ks.htm

and they have nothing.

Right now we are not sure what the districts will look like since there is still talk that they will put Wyandotte County (and then Leavenworth too) into the Big Red One, "represented" by Huelskamp.

The candidate needs to come from JoCo anyway. Maybe Tevis will run again, since he is the hero from JoCo swooping in to rescue the 2nd district :eyes:

2. Yeah, maybe it's too early
Especially if the district maps haven't even been drawn yet. And I guess it would be a further indictment of our system if campaign season was in full swing when only about a third of the Congressional term has passed.

Guess I was just jonesing for some good news.

3. well at this time in the last election
Schollenberger was already campaigning for the Senate and so were Tiahrt and Moran. Senator Kelly, our candidate against Jenkins entered fairly late in the game, in early December (but then dropped out in early January as the legislative session started). I don't think it hurts to start early. You can start raising money. Lord knows the incumbents are doing that all the time as well as using their franking privileges to campaign.

At the very least, some names should be being floated.

4. I've heard a few names are being floated...
I've heard two JoCo lawyers have expressed an interest. Don't know who they are but I'm pretty sure they haven't run for office before. I'm not sure a lawyer v lawyer campaign will yield a democratic victory.

Joe Reardon's name has been floated, but people who know him said this isn't the year for him. I doubt Stephene Moore will run again.

Lisa Johnston (the '10 Democratic Senate nominee; lives in JoCo) has been more active on Facebook... she recently announced a new blog (www.sapphirewire.com). This makes me wonder what she's up to.

I would think the state party would have a lot of interest in this race and will want to have a candidate identified as soon as possible.

I agree that Yoder is beatable – we just need the right candidate to run against him.
