KS GOP rep lies at legislative forum
John Rubin, GOP rep from Shawnee, claims there is a district in KS (that he of course can't name) that claims 100% of its kids are eligible for free or reduced lunch. This is a lie.

1. A republican who lies? Say it aint so!
Maybe he meant there is a school that has 100% free or reduced. Or maybe he just is a liar.

2. I have no idea how they do it in Kansas,
but here in Santa Fe I know of at least one elementary school (because I did a temp job there a couple of years ago) where such a high percentage of students are eligible for free lunches, all the kids get free lunches. Apparently it's easier and probably cheaper that way than doing the paperwork to keep track of who should pay.

3. There used to be a program where all the kids could eat free
But that's been discontinued. Cutbacks at the federal level.

Of course the USDA (they administer the free lunch program) still gives subsidies to farmers for not growing crops. Because we all know farmers need that free money but kids don't need to eat.

Seriously, I doubt there is any district in the entire country where 100% of the kids qualify for free lunch. Certainly not in Kansas.

4. Yes, qualifying is one thing, and a system
as I described above where all the kids get free lunches are decidedly two different things. Interesting, isn't it, that you and I understand that perfectly, and some idiot elected officials don't.
