Clark backing Weaver's candidacy with visit

Democrat facing Lewis in 2nd District vote

Gen. Wesley Clark, former commander of U.S. NATO forces and a Democratic candidate for president in 2004, will be in Owensboro on Tuesday to campaign for State Rep. Mike Weaver, an Owensboro native running for the 2nd Congressional District seat.



The fundraiser is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the RiverPark Center.



Weaver, a Radcliff Democrat, faces Republican Ron Lewis of Cecilia, who has held the seat since 1994.



Weaver is a retired U.S. Army colonel who completed two tours of combat in Vietnam, said Commonwealth's Attorney Jay Wethington, who is working on Weaver's local campaign.



"General Clark went to the War College with Michael," Wethington said. "That is a very tight-knit group of officers."
