State Democrats lagging behind Republicans in state fundraising
Associated Press
FRANKFORT, Ky. - Despite the political struggles of Republican Gov. Ernie Fletcher, the state Democratic Party lags behind its Republican rivals in the fundraising less than four months before the fall elections.
The state Democratic Party's executive committee had just $61,000 its main accounts on June 30 according to state and federal finance records, while Republicans had more than $771,000 in the bank.
In reality, the difference between the two parties isn't quite so disparate. All told, the Democrats have $333,753 split between several entities, while Republicans have $821,682.
Still, the gap has some of the state's leading Democrats wondering if the party will be up for the fight in November.
