Hi DUers in KY. I'm about to be one of you at the end of the month.
I'm moving to Lex at the end of October, from Minnesota. To be closer to family.

Just wanted to introduce myself and start reading the forum about state politics.

I've already voted here in MN by absentee ballot. But I do want to get involved.

So one more Liberal in Lexington, coming up!

1. Welcome to the Bluegrass State! Are you returning home or
is this going to be completely new to you? Lexington is a lovely part of the state and you have picked a nice time to move. Kentucky is (well at least appears to be) swinging back blue after a very bleak period of time in our long history. The wacko jobs like McConnell et al need to be sent packing - welcome to the fray.

Isn't it time for the Kentucky DUers start planning a meet-up?

Would love to greet and meet some like-minded people.

Anybody interested?

2. I lived there in the 80's, my ex was stationed at Ft. Cambell.
but this time it's pretty all brand new never really been to Lex before. I have a good friend there in and my grown kids are in Florida...

Big adventure for me!

I hear good things about KY turning blue again. I'll be glad to help turn it blue in 08 for sure.

Still apt hunting, my plane leaves the last sunday of Oct. I'm more stressed about flying with a cat than moving to a new city! lol

4. You are getting to town around the time a lot of students are
washing out of college. There should be some vacancies.

Hope you like basketball.

If you like the outdoors, we are one hour from the Red River Gorge.

5. Love the pics of the gorge!
that looks like fun!

as do the other things. I'm moving from a tiny town and I'll be happy to be back in a real city!

I'm gettin outta here before I have to deal with another winter in MN. I'm looking for an efficiency and there do seem to be some openings out there. Staying with a friend for a week or so til I get my bearings.

the job market looks really good too. Although I run an online business, I'm job hunting too.

6. You know that Fark.com is from here.
We have a good geek population because of University of Ky, Transylvannia (the oldest college this side of the Appalachians), Lex Mark, Toyota and so forth.

Have your friend show you Joseph Beth Book Store. You will be pleasantly surprised.

If you are into fine dining, we have Everything from Ethiopian and Indiana to good down home Kentucky fare.

You will have to try a Hot Brown at Ramsey's. It is probably why we die young here in Ky.

We have cycling teams, running clubs, and just about any activity or vice you desire. Oh and we do have horses.

3. Welcome. I am a Lexingtonian.
Be sure to check out the Change For Kentucky link below. It is our state chapter of Democracy For America.

We meed the first Wednesday of the month a 7 PM at the main library downtown. Meetings have been iffy lately because of all the work we are doing for the various campaigns. We'd rather be walking precincts than sitting in the basement of the library.

If you are more an issue type of person, Kentuckians for the Commonwealth might be more to your liking. They're good people. Most are young and idealistic. They do a lot of environmental and social justice work.

Hope you find your niche in Lexington. It's a good town.

11. I have lived in Lexington for about 6 weeks
I am in a treatment center, but I get out weekends. Get a bus pass, and take time to explore.
I did that today. There are only 6 major routes.

The downtown area is nice. Lexington is a clean city, and I have never seen so many water fountains!

12. Ahhh Lexington.
I've lived in L-Town for about 16 years now, which is most of my life. It's a very nice place to be, IMHO. I just moved downtown this past spring and I love it. Plus being so close to the library is a nice touch too.

I hope you'll enjoy it!

14. Well I'm here now in Lexington.
The move was a nightmare, but aren't they all.

I broke my leg a few days before I was gonna leave so I'm sort of in a holding pattern at a friends cause I can't fend for myself yet.

I got the keys for my apt, it is close to campus and close to downtown. Looks like a fun spot! I'm pleased, having rented it while I was still in Minnesota, all the pictures and descriptions were accurate.

Once I am able to put some weight on my leg, I look foward to exploring!!

Kynd

15. Welcome to KY!
Are you a part of the liberal relocation program? ;-) We need all the help we can get! But seriously, Lexington is a nice place to live and hope you like it here. As someone said before, get used to hearing about a lot of basketball at this time of the year! Folks here are pretty rabid UK bball fans.

18. Welcome to Lexington
I just moved back about 5 months ago; spent the last 10 yrs in Miami. I am very happy to be home. Lexington is really a great little city; hope you have had a chance to get out some and see how beautiful the trees are this fall. But wait until spring...breath taking. Lots to see and do...

Stay in touch. Sorry about your leg; hope you are up and around soon.

Debbie
