Ron Lewis - Kentucky repugnant repug pulls out of race - Yahoooooooo!
We in Rev. Ron's district stand a good chance of getting Democratic representation if we can get our act together.

Number 28-- Kentucky wingnut Ron Lewis, who "abruptly withdrew his name to run for re-election Tuesday, only minutes before the filing deadline, setting off a late scramble for a replacement... t was Lewis' sudden decision not to run again that was the most surprising, and filled with last-minute intrigue. Lewis chief of staff Daniel London went to the secretary of state's office to withdraw his boss' name - and file his own papers to run for the seat, according to state Board of Elections executive director Sarah Ball Johnson.

About the same time, state Sen. Brett Guthrie also filed papers to run. So, Guthrie and London will face off in the Republican primary on May 20... Two Democrats, state Sen. David Boswell and Davies County Judge Executive Reid Haire also filed, and will face off in the Democratic primary.

The West Kentucky congressional district is solidly Republican, though Democrats contested the seat last cycle. President Bush won 65 percent there in 2004. But Lewis won only 55 percent in his re-election bid against Democrat Mike Weaver in 2006."

Down with Tyranny has done a nice little video of the repugs who have decided not to run for re-election. Lewis pulled out at the last minute on Tuesday's deadline so he wasn't included in the video. For your viewing pleasure.

1. A rumor floated around last fall that he was retiring
something about his being on the market or some such. Given that he withdrew just minutes before the deadline and his chief of staff filed to run, it looks like those 'rumors' were true and this was their plan all along.

2. WHAS just reported the national GOP got a replacement to file *5 seconds* before the deadline.
Weird.

3. 'Got this letter from Ron today
Dear Friend:

Last Tuesday, I made the difficult and deeply personal decision to announce my retirement from Congress. I struggled with this decision until the last possible moment.

Upholding the trust of my constituents has always been my primary objective in public office. My decisions last week were not thought through in a fair and realistic way. The future of the region weighed heavily on my mind and, in hindsight, clouded my good judgment. It is clear now that my choices have disappointed my constituents, supporters, colleagues and staff.

I would like to publicly apologize for my poor judgment and humbly ask for the forgiveness of all those who I have let down. There are no excuses for how I chose my announcement was managed. I regret it deeply and want to do what is right to restore your faith in me during my remaining time in office.

I am humbled each day by the trust you have placed in me to serve your interests in Washington, DC. I intend to finish the final year of my congressional career fighting stronger than ever for a safer, hopeful future for Kentucky families. And when the 110th Congress draws to a close, I will look forward to spending more time with my loved ones, and enjoying so many things that we have missed these past years.

It has been an honor and privilege to serve you.

RON LEWIS
Member of Congress

The future of the region weighed heavily on my mind and, in hindsight, clouded my good judgment.
There are no excuses for how I chose my announcement was managed. WTF Ron

4. I got the same email. What a load of crock. He tries to make it
sound like he debated right up to the moment of the filing deadline when actually he was trying to screw the Kentuckians in his district from having a real choice. He didn't know what to do but his friend and/or assistant was right there ready to file HIS papers to run for his seat was just a funky coincident.

Standard Operating Procedure for one of Mean Mitch' boys. Wonder what lobbying firm has got Lewis a corner office all lined up? Ya know him and Kayi are just too big for their britches to stay in little ol' Hardin County, Kentucky now. Once you have screwed over an entire district you can never go home again.

Good riddance to them both.
