I have family that originally came from rural Kentucky. I have a bit of a soft spot for the state, especially because my greatgrandmother is originally from there. (May she rest in peace.)

I don't care who ya'll support-that doesn't matter right now. What I find disgusting is that it seems to be fine to refer to the people of an entire state as "racists" and "rednecks" and to make fun of their rural roots.

"KKKentucky" always gets my goat.

1. This Kentuckian is certainly disgusted along with you.

We all live with the redneck/Dukes of Hazard jokes, but being categorized as racist on the base of state residence--on a Democratic website--is absurd.
Gotta wonder if we'll all be rounded up for reprogramming next. :grr: :nuke:

2. I live in rural Missouri

and we are also referred to as redneck/toothless wonders. Both states have incredible histories-both positive and negative-and should be given at least a bit of respect.

I'm in solidarity with ya'll. I've always been a bit partial to Kentucky, especially since I have a few college friends originally from there. (One from Frankfort and another from around Elizabethtown.)

(Just wanted to add that one poster threw in his wife's beliefs. Since she once lived in Louisville she was able to give her opinion about the entire state, in that poster's opinion. And she said that all the rural people outside of Louisville were racists.)

3. That is a shame

I'm glad I don't base my support of the Democratic Party off of what some disrespectful people say about Kentucky here on DU.

Since Edwards dropped out, I've went back and forth between supporting Obama and Hillary. Neither sway was based on race or sex.

Just ignore people that have obviously never been to Kentucky. I don't live in Louisville and am as liberal and non-racist as they come. Intelligence and tolerance knows no geographic boundaries, believe it or not.

I have family that has lived there and I have friends from there.

I've always liked the rural areas of the state, finding them beautiful and the people quite friendly.

the remarks are made and so many pile on. They know nothing , they are slamming anyone not for their man.

And there is no reason to slam the hardworking people of a state just because they don't agree with what some on here want.
