I believe that Louisiana will be one of the ten most important swing states in this election and, hopefully if most of you are like me, you want nothing more than to see * sent back to Crawford in January. If we let * carry Louisiana, it's not because he earned our electoral votes it's because we didn't do enough convincing and getting out the vote.
Remember in the 2002 Senate race when Landrieu was behind after the primary, she wasn't running against Terrel, she was running against George W. Bush and the entire Rove attack machine. These people went as far as to call people and tell them that Mary was a heretic and had been excommunicated from the Catholic church for her support for abortion. Thankfully, the people of Louisiana were smarter than that and she won.
Now, for Louisiana, Kerry is not as good a candidate as Bill Clinton was but I think he could close this gap by selecting the right VP candidate. Edwards, Clark and Landrieu all have their strengths and weaknesses but Kerry could without a doubt carry Louisiana if he selects Breaux. Breaux was the lone Democrat who campaigned with Landrieu, while Terrell had *, Cheney and all kinds of other repugs campaign with her. Breaux is the most popular politician in the state and he is retiring from the Senate, so I think he would be a perfect candidate. Granted, he is a little more conservative than most of us would like, but his centrism would most certainly win us Louisiana and tip states like Florida and Arkansas in our favor.
If he selects someone else, then we would definately have to fight to win this election. I have no experience in a political campaign, so I was wondering what advice any experienced campaigners would have for me or anyone else who is sick and tired of *'s lies because I believe 100% that we can and should win Louisiana. We have the demographics, the tradition of populism and the compassion to give Kerry a landslide victory in November.
