New Democracy Rising - March 19, 2005 - New Orleans, LA
Another celebration of the Left and antiwar protest is being planned for March 19, 2005, the second anniversary of the Iraqi invasion, in the French Quarter. Keep an eye on the JF4D website for details and instructions. ( www.jazzfuneralfordemocracy.com )

4. Have been online looking at hotels
in the French Quarter for that weekend, and find most them with no vacancies, or the prices extremely high. Would some of you that live in NO post any hotels that you are aware of that have vacancies and would not break the bank? thanks!

5. We'll try to get some room blocks again
As with JF4D, we will attempt to get a block of rooms with a special rate. We'll keep you posted.

6. If weekend rates look too expensive,
could you recommend some good hotels in Metarie (on the interstate) and then recommend some public parking areas....parking areas near the French Quarter which would be safe to park in even if you would stay late in the Quarter, then walk back to your car? thanks, Buddy

7. We'll look into it

there may be the possibility of booking rooms in bulk like what was done for the JF4D

Will you be staying Friday and Sat night? What price is within your budget? How many guests will be staying in your room?

there is also this place that I posted about in the JF4D thread

"St. Vincent Guest House on 1507 Magazine. Friends of mine have stayed there pretty cheaply. They have several different size rooms with some that could host 4 guests. The place isn't fancy by any stretch of the imagination but it's convenient, safe, and affordable. I'd classify it as "budget". Its just a couple of blocks from the Street car line which would take the whole driving hassle out of the equation. Their room prices start at $50 and extra charges are added per person. If you're interested in this, give them a call at 504.523.3411 weekday mornings from 8-11."

8. Lamothe House Hotel
Edited on Fri Jan-28-05 08:50 PM by Dylan Garcia
Annie & I stayed at Lamothe House Hotel on Esplanade, one block from the Blue Nile, during JF4D. The rooms were incredible for $89.00 per night. Another friend staying there described his room as "a bowling alley well appointed with antiques." Ask for room 101 or 102.

The Saint Anne Antoinette on Conti has little European rooms starting at around $59.00 per night. We've stayed there a few times and found it to be very comfortable.

I don't know much about hotels in Metairie except for the Landmark. About $69.00 per night with a disco club full of middle aged 70's survivors in their original leisure suits. Kind of a hoot.

Katie's trying to get some block reservations nailed down.

11. Sleep Inn - 3 blks from French Q - $68
I've stayed in this hotel before and have no complaints. It's a short walk from the French Quarter, and not in a bad area. It has availability for Friday and Saturday nights at $68 for a 1 Queen Room, or $85 for a 2 bedded. You can cancel the reservation beforehand so might be a good backup to have in case the block booking isn't suitable for you.

9. WEBSITE UP!!
http://www.newdemocracyrising.com

I really like this name. I think it'd be cool if we could continue to use it, then every action could have it's own subtitle like "Awake for Peace".

19. What has been done
What we have done is offer a "donation version" of our bumper stickers...please check the Stuff link at left at newdemocracyrising.com . This is a great way to support the cause and have a little something to show for it.

Beyond that, in the past Buddy set up an escrow account to accept donations via check. Maybe we could do something similar.. We'll let you know if there are developments on this front.
