Hey Huey Long fans in Louisana (or anywhere) ---
Could you recommened a good book about Huey Long. There are quite a few out there. I know Huey was and still is a fav to the people of that state.

Some like to say he was a dictator, but was it because he wanted things to be better for the common people or just another smear tactic by those who were jealous and had him killed?

Thanks.

1. The authority on Long is David Zinman.
I believe he's written a book and a play about Long.

2. I'm not from LA but I'm a Long fan
The classic Biography on Long is "Huey Long" by T. Harry Williams. It's very good and I enjoyed it.

3. You could start with
"All The King's Men" by Robert Penn Warren. A fictionalized account but an excellent book, Pulitzer Prize winner.

And just for local color, I used to hate driving the Huey P Long Bridge in the New Orleans area. Old bridge, narrow lanes.

5. To be fair to the opposition, Huey Long ran a corrupt political machine
He definately did some election tampering to get his buddies into office and what not. It's kind of the curse of Louisiana politicians. Huey Long and Edwin Edwards were great Democrats (both believed in the old populist tradition) but both were also corrupt as hell and thus really give our state and our party a bad name.
