Am going to quote from the current issue of the Times of Acadiana (Can't find the exact article on their website)
Bad: Right to Die
While the country tuned in to follow the Terri Schiavo case out of FL, state Sen. James David Cain (R-Dry Creek) decided to take it upon himself to look out for our best interests. Cain plans to file legislation in the 2005 Louisiana legislative session, which begins April 25, to prevent any medical provider from removing an incapacitated person's feeding tube. Cain says, "A civilized society must always err on the side of live, not death." Strange, but does anyone recall asking Cain how he thinks we should spend our last days? If the law passes, it will be a great contradiction for our state --- death row inmates who do not wish to die are put to death but patients who are ready for death are forced to live.
((Anyone from the Dry Creek area? Is this guy for real? I would assume the proposed bill would be for those who do not have living wills, but who knows? I know the Schindlers had expressed the view, that even if Terri had had a living will, they would still have put up the fight they did to save her body. Ugh..gruesome.))
