Agriculture Commissioner: Blanco can't repair Louisiana

MONROE, La. (AP) -- Agriculture Commissioner Bob Odom said he has lost confidence in Gov. Kathleen Blanco's ability to lead the state and is trying to persuade retired U.S. Sen. John Breaux to run for governor in 2007.

"I think Breaux is the guy that can put it together. (Blanco) is a nice lady, but we need a Democrat who can turn this state around," Odom said Tuesday in remarks after a chamber of commerce luncheon.

"I think he's willing and that his wife is willing," Odom said. "I'm encouraging him, but I know he wants to see some (poll) numbers. He doesn't want to run unless he is confident he can win." (end snip)
