UPDATE #4: Pulitzer Finalists -- Here's the Likely List

NEW YORK With leaks pouring in, all confirmed by two or more sources, E&P presents below a list of alleged/likely finalists for this year's Pulitzer prizes in journalism. Those apparently doing very well with multiple nods are The Washington Post, The New York Times and Los Angeles Times, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel and Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and the Times-Picayune of New Orleans.

The amazing thing is, our speculative lists in the past have proven absolutely on the money, with just one or two exceptions to keep us honest. Take it for what it is, well beyond rumor and not quite official. Nearly all of the information, however, comes directly from judges and the finalists themselves -- always confirmed by more than one source, and sometimes half a dozen. We will add the four missing categories as they come in.

1. I'm disappointed the T-P didn't manage at least a broadsheet

during early September for the people who stayed behind. I think they still have the big Goss-Urbanite presses of my old alma mater the West Bank Guide over in Gretna.

With that one caveat, I think the T-P deserves some recognition for the coverage they managed from the belly of the beast during the worst of it.

Chris Rose I have mixed feelings about. He has flights of brilliance, and then writes about people yacking on their carphones while driving.

I have an appreciation for the challenges of coming up with something twice or more a week. I've pushed over 100,000 words into Wet Bank Guide since September, and I'm stuck for a post write now. Some sing, some don't and some are just to keep the hit counts ups so people don't forget when I do have something to say. It's a hard thing to do.

At his best, Rose was f---ing brilliant.
