I didn’t give the answers he was looking for because I didn’t give the answers he provided. Rather than let him lead me, I gave the answers that were important to me.
First Question: Which issue is most important to you? He swiftly strung together a long list with an enunciation-lazy Joe Lieberman-type voice, seemingly forgetting to use his larynx to project clearly. Rather than asking him to repeat himself so that I could understand the options, I gave him my own: impeachment.
Second Question: Would you vote for a pro-life or pro-abortion candidate? I said, "This shouldn’t be an issue, period."
Third Question: A long question about making schools be more accountable! With the same inflection used by Jim Mora when he was asked about the Saints making the playoffs, I said, "More accountable?! Thanks to George Bush’s No Child Left Behind, the teachers are spending more classroom time teaching how to take tests than teaching!"
Will you be voting for John Kennedy or Mary Landrieu? "I will never, ever vote for a Republican."
With a "thank you for your time", the short conversation was over.
My answers weren't recorded, I'm sure, but it felt good not to allow myself to be herded like a mindful sheep.
