This will be interesting to watch in the coming months. UNO has been cut to the bone over the past couple of years, and SUNO has finally started to get back into actual buildings 5 years after Katrina.
Governor Bobby Jindal has announced he is asking the Board of Regents to consider merging Southern University New Orleans and the University of New Orleans.
The state is facing a $1.67 billion shortfall in next year's budget. Because of state law the only sectors that can be cut from the budget are higher education and health care, as most of the rest of the budget is protected.
Jindal has estimated the budgets cuts to higher education to be 10 percent or less, but nothing is sure until his administration submits a budget on March 11.
