House results stun Maine GOP

AUGUSTA - Maine Republicans were stunned Wednesday by election results that left Democrats with 89 House seats, compared to 60 for Republicans.

In a year in which Republicans felt good about their chances of taking control of the Maine House, 10 Republican incumbents lost, according to unofficial results released by the House Clerk's Office.

"I have failed and I feel very badly about that," said House Republican Leader David Bowles of Sanford. "I take responsibility for it."

State GOP leaders blamed the loss on national issues, including the war in Iraq, and the statewide referendum on the so-called Taxpayer Bill of Rights.

I wish Hay Bright had picked up 10-20% more of the vote than she did. That would have gotten Snowe's attention and probably Collins too.

3. LOL They are now *blaming* TABOG

for their losses?

Does that mean Mary Adams will be as welcome at the next GOP meeting as Carol Palesky?

Karma sucks, doesn't it? They put this crap on the ballot hoping Mainers would revolt, and at the same time toss out the Dems. Not only did Mainers reject TABOG, they tossed out the Repubicans.

6. TABOR

Tabor was the frosting on the cake.I think this woke up even the republicans just how far right they were trying to take the party.
And yes i predicted Woodcock couldn't pull it off,even before he started praising tabor.
Oh well now if we could only convert the tele-tubbies!
If they try to run tabor again it will get defeated before it gets to augusta. I doubt they can find enough people to sign for a vote!
