FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Governor Mourns Death of Marine from Maine AUGUSTA - Governor John Baldacci learned today of the death of Marine Private First Class Angel Rosa of South Portland.
Private First Class Rosa, 21, was killed on March 13 while conducting combat operations in the Al Anbar province of Iraq, according to the Department of Defense.
"I am deeply saddened by the loss of another young life. When his country called him, Private First Class Rosa answered. There's not enough we can do to honor his sacrifice," Governor Baldacci said. "Our prayers go out to his family."
Governor Baldacci made condolence calls to the family Thursday morning.
"His mother said her son was always the first into battle, was always leading from the front," Governor Baldacci said. "She also said the people of South Portland have opened their arms to her family and have been incredibly supportive."
Flags will be ordered flown at half staff on the day of Private First Class Rosa's funeral.
