FARMINGTON -- A college history professor who returned to his hometown of Farmington in 2004 to retire has announced he is a candidate for the 2nd Congressional District seat and plans to challenge incumbent Rep. Mike Michaud.
John Frary, 66, is a conservative Republican, former chairman of the Franklin County Republican Party and a Farmington selectman. He stepped down as chairman after announcing his candidacy at the Republican State Committee meeting on Saturday.
He holds a master's degree in history and taught history and political science at Middlesex Community College in New Jersey for 32 years.
With a dry sense of humor and a penchant for fedoras, gold-capped canes and the ever-present carnation in his suit lapel, he pens his conservative views on issues from education to the high cost of government in op-ed pieces in local papers.
