FIREWOOD PROGRAM
The Maine Department of Conservation’s Bureau of Parks and Lands has for the past several years run a program to allow the public to cut firewood on the State’s Public Lands for a fee. Under this program individuals can cut up to 10 cords of firewood per year for their own use.
The program requires that individuals have their own chainsaws and means of transporting the firewood cut, typically a pick-up truck. Wood is sold “on the stump” requiring the individual to fell, limb, cut up, and move the wood from the stump to the road.
Wood is sold by the cord at $25 per cord through permits obtained at one of the three Public Lands Regional Offices in Farmington, Old Town and Ashland.
