5. Three Unenrolleds are on the ballot
And the Greens will probably have a candidate.

So the ballot will be very crowded.

9. Like Wooddick the last time around
LePuke is not electable.

Don't be surprised if Mills goes Un-enrolled. Then things could be dicey.

Mills is pro-choice, pro gay marriage, anti voucher, anti creationist, & has a fair environmental record. He could probably raise a war chest and has a solid base in the heart of Maine's teahadist's stronghold. He would take far more from Libby than LePuke.

11. I know that stronghold you speak of
I live in it. Mills is my senator :puke: As conservative as this area is, it always surprises me that he continues to get re-elected. But as another DUer pointed out, Mainers aren't fans of change. And he has been good to the sportsmen which accounts for alot around here.

Interesting point you brought up though- Mills running un-enrolled. I hadn't thought of that possibility. Hmmmmmmm.

6. Question 4 is 51-49, other bonds are solid.
I love this electorate. "We want to borrow money and do all kinds of stuff...but we don't want tax dollars to do it." Apparently they think there is a money tree in Augusta.

7. I'm taking a wild guess and assuming not all are pleased?
Edited on Tue Jun-08-10 11:11 PM by Crystal Clarity
If that is the case, why?

BTW- Please know that this is a no judgement zone... seriously! (ok. I am not crazy about Steve Rowe but I'll try to keep that to myself)

On edit: dumb mistakes fixed...way past my bedtime...

8. I was hoping for a new face,
and liked Rosa on most issues, especially after watching the debate where Libby was clearly a professional politiciand, albeit a charming one. BUT Mainers don't seem to like change and maybe Libby will do better against the nutjob LePage than any of the other dems would have.

10. Good point
-Mainers don't like change and LePage is definitely that. I think the wingnut faction of the Maine GOP has just shot themselves in the foot on this one. Had they gone for the more moderate Mills, the conservative northern R's would still have (begrudgingly)voted for him in the General AND he (Mills) may have been able to eak out just enough success among the south-of-Augusta faction to possibly seize a win. So the GOP's choice of Lepage is good for us overall I think.

My one concern in this race though is the fact that Libby is not a native Mainer. She's been living here for many years but she still has that southern belle genteelness about her and a trace of a southern accent. I'll bet she will be pounded on by the LePage folks over that. And you can be sure LePage and his teabagger friends will be pretty ugly in their attacks.

12. Yep, agreed.
But the very fact that LePage was picked is disturbing. We have been comforting ourselves by calling the teabaggers part of a fringe movement, but I begin to worry that they are more mainstream than that. If so, not only is Maine in trouble but our entire way of life is endangered.

13. I've thought of that too
I really, really hope that this new route Maine GOPers are taking with fringe teabagger types and their nutty platform is just a fad and unappealing to the more moderate R's in their circles... But can you imagine how awful it'd be if they somehow succeed?... Stranger things have happened. :scared:

And yes, the very fact that he won the nomination IS disturbing.

15. 7 candidates
There were 7 candidates. He kooks united behind LePage and the rest split between the others. Mills, Abbott or Otten alone vs. Lepage and LePage would have lost.
