Once I become governor, my policy is going to be everything's on the table, we're going to look at all forms of energy. The only energies I will implement are energies that are cost effective, that will lower the total energy burden of the state of Maine. I do believe that we need to explore liquefied natural gas terminals and I think that an energy corridor from Canada is a pretty good concept as long as some of that energy can be left in Maine, if it's cheaper than what we're buying off the grid now - which it is. And quite frankly, I think Maine is ripe for a nuclear power plant.
Education:
I think the state of Maine only needs 16 school superintendents: one per county. You take all of the education policy through that office; all of the business work and all of the personnel work. Do the bussing, nutrition and accounting on the county level and leave the local school boards alone. Let them decide how they want to run the schools as long as they stay within a state mandate. But I'm also a big fan of home schooling, voucher systems and charter schools. We need charter schools. Maine has great kids and great teachers, but the education system is handcuffed by large unions. They don't care about anything except their power.
Gambling:
As governor, I believe that if you're going to have casino in your community it should be a county level decision, not a state level decision. I also believe that if the Maine voters say they want gambling, I would enforce the law and say we'll have gambling. If they say they don't want it, I would enforce the law and not have gambling. For me, it's not a big issue.
Same-Sex Marriage:
I believe that marriage consists of a man and a woman and I would veto a gay marriage law if it came to my desk as governor.
