8. I wasn't surprised by the State Senate

Wasn't happy about it, but wasn't surprised. The State House otoh, I didn't expect at all.

And don't get me started on LePage. I recently went back and checked out our Governor's race primary thread. Boy, was I wrong... I'm embarrassed to admit that I was happy about LePage winning the primary. I thought at the time that there was no way he'd win. I was SO wrong about everything actually. I also thought earlier on that Cutler didn't have a chance, and Libby would make it. I wouldn't mind eating crow if the outcome was a good one, but this? Ugh! :-(

And just think, not only are important social programs and environmental protections at risk, but there will be other ramifications. We'll likely be losing all 3 of our constitutional officers for one thing. I wonder if our new R Attorney General will join in w/the other states who are suing the Federal Government over the 'constitutionality' of Health Care Reform.

Hang on, this is going to be a terrifying ride.

Peter would not be too bad of a choice, all things considered. But the R's in Augusta have been stewing in their own juices for so long that methinks their brains are pickled. The fact that they ran and won on a teabagger platform suggests to me that Peter Mills may be too moderate and rational for them.

But then again, some of the cooler heads may want to distance themselves from the appearance of reactionary teabaggerism in which case he'd be their man. It'll be interesting to see what they do and it may give us a better idea of what to expect from them.

Thank goodness we still have Democrats and some moderate Republicans in the next Legislature. Not as many as I'd like but they will help mitigate too much damage. I hope!

I think had Peter Mills been their Gubernatorial candidate in either of the last two elections we wouldn't be having this discussion at all. Tuesday would have seen his re-election. IMHO.

And I too hope there will be enough moderates to keep this from becoming too much of a mess to clean up after. It's a thankless job. Just ask President Obama and the Congressional Dems. Let's hope the Grand Old Party's mess will be confined to no more then 2 years in the State Legislature and 4 in the State Executive branch.

When he came door-to-door I told Seth not to expect a lot of support. I used to do the walking lists around here and there are 5 D's in the development out of ~100. My neighbor was thrilled with the TP victories. I mentioned that her Social Security check might disappear but she laughed it off. "They're just going to cut people, not benefits."

"You think your check mails itself?"

I really don't think people realize what they are getting.

I guess they think it's going to be all low taxes but with the roads fixed, all the services they need, and jobs galore with all the employers who are going to move to Maine and create new jobs. Kind of like the land of milk and honey. Wonder how long before 90% disapproval levels?

He got chewed out by some lady in a country grocery store who complained about her high taxes, and when was he going to cut them and how she was tired of having to pay for government. Then, as he left, she yelled out: "And when are you going to fix the damn roads?"

If there is anything we can smile about right now, one will be watching the R's try to fill the shoes of both Millie McFarland (Clerk of the House) and Joy O'Brian (Secretary of the Senate)

These positions have a HUGE learning curve to them. Gone with Millie and Joy will be their entire staff (that part sucks big time)... BUT without them, the R's WILL make mistakes of epic proportions. This I guarantee. They will be big, embarrassing and PUBLIC since we now can watch sessions live. I just hope the MSM will show some of it, so the people can see what they voted for.

And what makes this even better?... John Martin will be the only person there capable of getting them out of the many parliamentary procedural gaffs that WILL occur. Everyone else has but a rudimentary understanding of what they will be doing. And I know John. He may help, but it'll cost them. :rofl:


One other thing... another rumor. It looks as though Josh Tardy will be in the running for AG. I haven't heard anything yet about the other 2 constitutional officer positions.
