Dairy Industry Leader Stan Bennett, II, dies at 64I've known Stanley since he went to Tufts University with my husband in the late sixties. I remember the first time I saw him he was riding in an open convertible past the fraternity house belting out, "I Feel Good."
He was a young Republican back then and an early supporter of now Sen. Olympia Snowe. Gradually, he came to see the light - especially after 2003 when his small dairy, Oakhurst, battled the agri-giant Monsanto. At a fraternity reunion a few years ago, I recall asking if anyone ever thought Stanley would end up being written up as a hero in
Mother Jones magazine. By 2008, he was a big Obama supporter.
Everyone who knew him will miss him. He was always upbeat and laughing. Condolences to his three kids and his family. Fare thee well, Stanley.
