Ed/Rachel--what's this about LePage and raising property taxes? |
|
Both Ed and Rachel have mentioned LePage and said that he is proposing in his budget to raise property taxes----ummmm, I thought property taxes are a local thing based on local millage rates, etc. Is he proposing a "state property tax"??? No Maine media outlet has ever mentioned anything like this and I'm wondering if Ed and Rachel have things assbackward??? I have contacted the news channels this a.m. and asked them to investigate this. Have you heard anything about this??? This sure is "news" to me!!!

1. he doesn't have to raise them |
|
He doesn't have to raise them; but his actions can cause it to happen! If he cuts in the wrong places and gives back tax relief to the haves; this can result in drastic changes in property taxes! One example is the state giving back more and more state aid and urban hyways to towns to maintain! I believe longley may have been the cause of major increases in local budgets-and since some of the same people are in this administration it could happen again. one thing is for sure he tied the states employees hands by cutting supplies, equipment etc. this took at least 10 years of added expenses at higher prices to be able to operate effectively! He lost a lot of dedicated employees !killed the moral and his buddies milked the taxpayers dry!

2. Less money is going to the towns from the state |
|
Towns will have to either cut spending or raise property taxes.

look at the increase in the school budgets due to costly designs of the new schools! god almighty have you seen the wasted space in some of these new schools? cmon how much do you think we could save with solar panels added to schools an municipal bldgs.? look at this cutting going on- much of it simply to go for business tax breaks! have you been in a store lately gov? well the price increases are grater than cost increase! can I do that with my bills? deduct the cost index from the price increases to my real estate tax,my food increase and my fuel cost? how bout it gov. I think thats where the money should go not to business who can raise their prices!

just review the longley years! It's already proven your kicking the can down the road while feeding the fat cats! we have done it twice in my life time -we don't need another screw up to prove it! Take the money from the cuts-if you must cut and pay down your debts-not give it to those that don't need it! like the koch boy representative!
