State rep threatens to shoot "innocent bystander"
WATERVILLE — A state representative from Garland was arrested Saturday morning for pointing a handgun at a man at point-blank range in a Dunkin Donuts parking lot.

Republican Frederick Ladd Wintle, 58, faces charges of criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and carrying a concealed weapon for pulling a gun on Morning Sentinel photographer Michael Seamans, of Sidney.

In what police termed a “bizarre” series of events, Wintle allegedly started talking to Seamans about the infant that died this week at Mid-Maine Homeless Shelter on Ticonic Street and said he was looking for the mother’s drug dealer.

You'll never guess which party he is from - (OK, he's a Republican-ME)....I know this guy, but never suspected he'd do something like this. Sounds like some kind of nervous breakdown if you ask me. I wondering what connection Fred has to the mother of the infant - I don't think it's a direct family connection, but maybe I'm wrong. Developing, as they say...

1. Has there been any sign of mental disturbance that you know of?
Strange that this would happen out of the blue.

2. The few times I met Fred, he seemed like a pretty reasonable guy
---even though I knew we differed on our politics. Some people in town are saying that he seemed to be acting a little odd of late, so I'm leaning towards some kind of nervous breakdown. Rumor is he thought the person he accosted was the guy responsible for supplying the drugs. I have no idea what's up with Fred...he even had his wife with him when this went down. He was arrested at gunpoint by the police. He's in big trouble, I think.

4. so whats new

I just read the previous answers an none mention his actions previous to this gun threat.
I get the waterville paper and it definitely stated he had been thrown out of a hotel because of his behavior. It's called I got the power! he feels he is the judge jury and executioner! The almighty authority on all things. He has been building up to this for some time. his behavior has been more and more aggressive! He disrupted several meetings and tried the bullying route(it failed)!
Doug Thomas spoke well of him(it's called damage control) they will do their best to get him out of this! typical -you try it i'll send your cigarette money to thomaston!

7. I just read that Speaker Nutting wants him banned from the State House
Nutting has asked the AG's office to require the ban as part of Wintle's bail. His electronic key card tot he State House has already been disabled.

8. Fred needs help.
The SO told me that he jumped in the pool at the Senator last week while there was some kind of program using the pool. And he got kicked out of the bar there as well. I've been told he's got a short fuse and is quick to anger, but I never saw it on display. I think he's got some serious psychiatric issues that's going to require supervised medical treatment.

10. how true

we can make all kinds of excuses but the fact remains he committed at least two felonies! and your right this was not the first display of stupidity. the fact is they(being the powers to be) were aware of his behavior. he did several things to have been
brought to their attention.yet this went on for several days with out any action taken.
the fact is he should be brought to task the same as any other citizen of the state would be.(if not swifter and more sternly because of the position he held)!
He knew what he was doing and he should pay the price!

11. it pays to play

I Accomplished what I set out to do and that was to make fishy and his sargent at arms eat crow! I would suggest you read the thread in the other forum and see how they tried to suppress the facts.
THIS IS A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF INFLUENCE FROM ABOVE TO CONTROL THE MINDS OF OTHERS!

"I agree that anyone speculating on this incident should be cautious, and exercise some discretion. We don't know what really happened yet, nor whether there were extenuating circumstances.

I would hate to see AMG members act like some of the juvenile, "Any Excuse to Bash an R" posters on the PPH pages."
" WELL I GUESS Anyone can print in a rag hey lady!"
I KNEW THEY WOULD VISIT THIS SITE! AND I KNEW HOW THEIR SIMPLISTIC MINDS OPERATE!
THEIR A PAIR OF SHOW ME THE MONEY FIRST CREW!
ROFLMAO AT SUCH NARROW MINDED PEOPLE!

12. another mind set
here is the perfect example of the typical rhino who knows more than anyone else and is above reproach(yes I do mean typical )we have several in my family tree that fit the m.o.

A very odd story. The Bangor Daily News story can be found here.

The comments on both stories make for interesting reading. The lefties who like to leave their brain droppings on such sites seem almost universally ready to believe that Republicans are violent whackos who like to shoot people. The vitriol sure makes it clear who the real haters are.
can you think of a more pompous a-hole to call to task? he's so sure of himself I didn't correct his spelling error!
roflmao @ THIS NARROW MINDED GEEK!

Wow, whys this guy being summarily thrown under the bus?

Having said that I agree with Virgil concerning the bail issue. He was elected to represent those in his district, let him do so!

Sounds like a misuse of the bail system to me.

Conditions are added on bail all the time. This is nothing new.

He was elected to represent those in his district, let him do so!

He kind of lost that right, at least temporarily, when he decided to pull a gun and threaten to kill someone. Peoples concerns now, should be getting the guy the help he needs.
Now robert has the right frame of mind-
Of course he should be barred from the capitol ;he falls right into the category of "abuse of power" what put him in this frame of mind probably was the fact he found out he wasn't as important as he thought! you know he was thrown out of the hotel, several people stood up to him in the past week. for ya speak without thinking=his demand for information from the reporter was a simplistic act of abuse of power!
yea ya can't even copy the truth back to ur forum right lady! And ya still haven't figure i post their often!
an no doubt eating crow having to open a closed forum should show you i'm far from a juvenile!
THE BEHAVIOR WAS CRIMINAL AND THE CRIME REQUIRES JAIL TIME! NEVER ALLOWED TO HAVE WEAPONS,AND TREATMENT IF NEEDED PART OF HIS PROBATION! ANYTHING LESS IS A DISSERVICE TO THE PEOPLE OF THIS STATE!

17. Speculation on my part, but
according to the SO, Fred has been reprimanded recently on voting the wrong way by the caucus. I think he actually changed one of his votes to conform to the hive edict. I wonder if this inability to think critically and in support of your constituent's best interests is facilitating Fred's break with reality?

18. That might be a stretch
I'd be more inclined to think he didn't have a clue what was being voted on. As the saga unwinds, we now know this has been growing for a while. A few days on the county didn't seem to make any difference. Safe to rule out substance abuse or over-medication, unless his attorney was muling the shit in for him. Under-medicated or an actual physical condition (more serious than a brain fart) can't be ruled out.

That he stayed in the KCJ and didn't post bail indicates he refused the conditions of release. Most likely the psych eval. His demeanor in front of the cameras yesterday, was not that of someone with even a remote sense of reality.

The 'constituent survey' he recently sent out, read more like a right wing push poll.

Whatever the cause, the reality is our Rep is persona non grata where the laws of the State are written, debated and enacted and we do not have a voice from our district. I hope the legislature addresses this promptly

On another note, how you doing? Come up and visit when you're in town...the Boss and I would like to buy you a beer or 2 on the deck and discuss the ramifications.

20. After further considerations, you may be on to something
The privatization rumors, esp regarding the 'assisted living' facility with a view on Rt 15, has to be causing some heartburn.

I've had to avoid the place since the last couple drip sessions, but the last time there, the troops were more than just a bit edgy. My plan is to get the program back on track again starting next Thursday. I may be able to take you up on the brew afterwards.
