Money is money but heritage and the business it brings into an area can often times be much more than the cost of a bridge! hmm you say what do I know! well sonny I worked on revitalizing of rte#302 in the fifties! when north windham had a filling sta and a cor store! but this ain't about windham this is about bottling up a waterway that has a century of traveling from Harrison to standish! I can tell you that I doubt that the bridge that was re- built in the fifties was probably less than a million. So for 60 years just the businesses in the quarter mile strip has probably given the state in wages and taxes a 100 times that. How many people have taken a ride on the paddle wheel and other commercial boats to see the famous songo locks? I find that the republicans are so short sighted that they cut their own electorates throat. the new bridge will not allow the paddle wheel to pass because it is a fix bridge with a clearance of 12-14 feet depending on water levels! I predict that this bridge over 60 years will kill the causeway! and in this time of $2 hot dogs,$4 beers,$3 ice creams it won't take long to realize the mistake being made! On fourth of july when they have the fireworks display I estimate their is at least $2 million dollars of boats filled with people watching on the lake!(i believe this is a very conservative est.) they estimate well over 20,000 people watch this display!(very conservative est.) I'm guessing the average person will spend $10 for soda, hot dogs fries etc just on the causeway! yup it was a brilliant move by the conservatives in this state! now all they can do is what they do best blame the other guy!
