Expansion of Juniper Ridge Landfill - Meeting Oct. 24

Casella Waste, a large out-of-state waste management company, has been managing the state-owned landfill in Old Town, has turned this landfill into a garbage dump for much of New England. Now they are asking for a permit to expand the footprint of this by 7-fold, arguing that it is needed to meet the needs of Maine. In actuality, no expansion would be needed if they stopped hauling in trash and sewage from away and followed best practices for composting and recycling.
