Mfume, former 5 term Congressman will run for US Senate
Monday March 14, 2005 by GRETCHEN PARKER
Associated Press Writer, announced 1 hour ago:

SNIP

"BALTIMORE (AP) - Kweisi Mfume, a former five-term congressman who recently stepped down as president of the NAACP, announced Monday that he will run for the U.S. Senate next year in Maryland."

"In announcing his candidacy, the Baltimore native and former radio talk show host declared in a booming voice: ``I can't be bought. I won't be intimidated, and I don't know how to quit."

I'll vote for him. O'Malley for Govenor of Maryland, Mfume will fight in Congress! Spread the word. The one from Montgomery County is too close to Repub party and Mont Co very red.

1. I am for O'Malley for governor too
and I am not for Duncan (the one from Montgomery County), but Montgomery is pretty strongly Democratic.

In fact, whoever wins will need Baltimore plus Montgomery and P.G. Counties to counter the Republicans in much of the rest of the state

Montgomery county is "very" red! Duncan will flip-flop, and lean too much. O'Malley for Govenor

You have a good point on that last thought. Who else??

4. Montgomery is 66% Dem in performance
That doesn't sound "red" to me. Or did you mean something else by red?

9. And she didnt even campaign. At least not in my area (Dundalk).

For every one Mikulski yard sign, I saw ten Pipkin yard signs. For every one Mikulski TV ad, I saw 3 Pipkin ads.

This just proves how powerful our incumbent Senators are. This is one reason I like Van Hollen. He is young and could occupy this seat for a longggg time.

10. Dutch Announcing Tue Mar 15th US Senate Run, Possibly
He needs to hear from us. This is a repost I just did earlier. Trying to get the word out. He's considering replacing Sarbanes.

Any thoughts?

--------------------------

Just rec'd an email from Dutch Ruppersberger moments ago announcing his intentions to possibly run for the US Senate seat. If he does, I'm certain he can hold Baltimore County and others. With the wonderful Senator Sarbanes preparing to retire it's not a a bad idea to keep this thread out here now.

If any DU'ers know of other fellow Marylanders, forward this to them.

Dutch has done "a lot" for Baltimore County & holds a top job in the House.

SNIP FROM DUTCH

On Tuesday, March 15th as I (Dutch) will announce the creation of my Senate Exploratory Committee to prepare for a possible run for US Senate.

The announcement will be made at 10 AM at the Texas Fire Station, 9835 York Road in Cockeysville.

11. I heard the news today!
Wonderful! Blessings on Mfume! I forgot he had been in congress for five terms! What experience he has! I think he would be great to follow the great Sarbanes.
