Is Ken Mehlman (Republican National Committee Chairman) on drugs?
Edited on Thu Apr-21-05 02:54 PM by nickshepDEM
Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman gave Baltimore County Republicans a roadmap last night for expanding the Maryland GOP into the state's dominant party.

The Pikesville native, who ran President Bush's re-election campaign, said that if the Maryland Republican party can turn out just 75 percent of the people who voted for Bush last year, it will sweep the Democrats out of power in 2006.

"We'll re-elect Bob Ehrlich, we'll elect a Republican U.S. senator and we won't just have a veto-proof majority in the State House. Bob Ehrlich's agenda will be the law of the land," Mehlman said.

1. too bad 75% of Bush voters is like 35% of MD voters
doesn't he remember EJ Pipkin getting his ass literally handed to him on a platter? Barb Mikulski got almost 70% of the f-in vote. Pipkin almost did as bad as Alan F-in Keyes!

3. He's right. This is a midterm election.
Average turnout for midterms is about 50% of turnout in a presidential year. If the R's in MD can rally that many more midterm voters than usual, they could, in fact, turn the election with just that.

4. Yeah, if the Democratic turnout is 25% and Republican turnout is 75%.

In a state that John Kerry won by 13%, Sen. Mikulski was re-elected with 65% of the vote, 6/8 CD's are controlled by Democrats, both the State House and Seante are 2/3's Democrat, and where Democrats outnumber Republicans nearly 2 to 1. I find it very hard to believe that if just 75% of Maryland Bush supporters turn out in 2006 that would essentially lock up the Governor's mansion, a U.S. Senate Seat, and 2/3 Majority in the state Senate. Like I said, if Democratic turnout is around 25% and GOP turnout is around 75%.

6. There is motivation to get Erlich out
and I think, except for the fanatics, regret by some that they actually cast their vote for GWB. Unless we screw it up we are going to take 2006. This guy is delusional.

8. Let's hope there are good candidates for Gov/Lt. Gov
I swore what hurt Katherine Kennedy-Townsend in 2002 was the fact that she picked some old pasty white guy as her Lt. GOv. Erhlich found a conservative African-AMerican and I believe that drew some votes away from KKT.

7. Well he has a point, I think he's right....
...of course everything from Baltimore down to the DC suburbs would have to cede into their own state leaving most of the rural area left, but the guy has vision
