True Blue Maryland stands to gain nearly 10,000 jobs

Makes me wonder if this is one of what appears to be a series of Republican political mistakes based on arrogance.......

3. Look past the senators - Maryland ain't all blue

Gov. Robert Erlich is a repuke of the worst sort and has inspirations past the Maryland statehouse. He's also not very popular and at risk of losing his re-election bid in 2006. So this is a major boost for him and of course his democratic senators Mikulski and Sarbennes aren't going to do anything to stop 10,000 new jobs in Maryland.

Now, let's go to Virginia where many of the jobs heading to Maryland seem to be coming from. Ironically, Virginia has 2 republican senators but alas - they have a democratic governor who happens to be somewhat popular and with presidental aspirations himself. PLUS VA has a governor election in 2005 (not 06) but Mark Warner, the current governor can't run for re-election. But what better way to make the democratic party look bad in 2005 that to lose 10,000jobs thanks to base closing.

This is more than just senators and represenatives!

4. Blue Enough to override Some Erlich vetoes

Your post is making me think more deeply about this, but I don't think the Bushies would risk so much wrath for a Maryland Governor or even the off chance that Steele or Erlich would win a Senate Seat.

6. Steele I could see winning a senate seat

Personally, I think he's what gave Ehrlich the win because Katherine Kennedy Townsand picked some crickity old white man, which I believe was a poor choice for Lt. Governor.

I saw Steele on Bill Maher and I was impressed - I think he could have the appeal to possibly win a senate seat. But I think the open seat in 2006 (Sabannes retiring) should be safe for democrats. And Babs is pretty popular so hopefully she's young enough to run one more time in 2010 (she just ran in 2004). So what I'm hoping is the democrats not only get a strong candidate for governor, but this time they pick a Lt. Governor that appeals to a wider base of voters.

BTW, I was wrong - Walter Reed is in Washington DC and let's face it, what senators or representives are going to defending not closing Walter Reed :eyes:

8. Steele should not be underestimated

I agree with you Lynne. My serious concern is that he seems to come across as credible to African-Americans, which is the trick that eludes many African-American Republicans.

I remember one prominent Prince George's County church leader telling the newspaper that she was impressed with Steele. That concerned me.
