I saw the thread lamenting the lack of affordable fundraisers below, and wanted to mention one coming up this weekend (info below). Melissa Berger is a candidate for Delegate in Maryland's 13th District, where there will be one, possibly two open seats. (Neil Quinter has all-but-announced a run for Ben Cardin's seat, and Shane Pendergrass is considering opposing Sandra Schrader in the state Senate.) Melissa is a first-time candidate, inspired to run by Howard Dean's enouragement of all of us ("the grassroots") to take our country back by running for office at every level. She was very involved in the Dean campaign locally, and is now the vice chair (I'm the chair) of Democracy for Howard County -- so she really understands and appreciates the power of the grassroots, and of small donations from many rather than simply courting wealthy donors. That's why this fundraiser is on a "sliding scale." (She also recognizes that childcare can be an issue, which is why kids are welcome at this event! Mine will be there!) Please consider attending Saturday's event, whether you are in District 13 or not!
