Van Hollen has announced he won't run for the senate seat...

Annapolis, MD. (AP) Rep. Chris Van Hollen announced Monday he will forego a race for the U.S. Senate next year, choosing instead to run for a third term as a member of the House of Representatives.

In a letter to supporters, Van Hollen said he believes he could have "waged an energetic and ultimately successful campaign based on a positive agenda for the future" if he had sought the Senate seat that will open up next year with the retirement of Democratic Sen. Paul Sarbanes.

1. Good...we need to hang on to that seat in Congress
And I think Cardin will ultimately prove to be a very good candidate!!!

3. any good Dem would have held that seat
there are no other Morella's on the horizon. Still it will make it easier for us to win the Senate seat.

I heard rumors she was thinking of running again if Van Hollen left...not sure if they were true or not

5. I'm pretty involved in local politics
and I heard exactly the opposite. I don't think she was returning. I wouldn't have worried about that seat. The question is moot now anyhow.
