Last Chance Animal Rescue in collaboration with The Humane Society of Calvert County, Maryland and other local area rescue groups will be heading down to the New Orleans area to meet up with Best Friends. They will leave on Sept. 13 and hope to arrive by Sept. 15.
They will have 4-5 vehicles going and are in desperate need of the following donations:
Large dog crates Gas money. It will cost over $600 per vehicle for gas Towels and blankets for one time use Leashes Food and water bowls
Also, if anyone has a stock trailer or passenger van with air conditioning we could definitely use it for transportation. When we return, we will need fosters for about 40-50 dogs and potentially some cat fosters. We are anticipating between all the groups needing atleast 100 fosters for dogs & cats.
Our greatest need at this time is money. The sanctuary in the New Orleans area is running on generators and at this time barely has enough gas to run for more than 1 or 2 hours a day. Monetary funds can help is to get down to help them as well as provide gas to the sanctuary so that they can continue helping the animals that are already there and continue to arrive.
Please drop off items at PETsMART in Bowie. Checks made out to Last Chance Animal Rescue can also be dropped off there with the manager. Any funds donated will be used specifically for the Katrina rescue effort.
PETsMART @ Bowie, MD 4500 Mitchellville Rd Bowie, MD 20716-3111 301-352-7286
We have e-mail addresses set up specifically for each need. If you have any the larger supplies (ie. stock trailer or vans) or can provide media exposure or volunteer services, please e-mail:
hurricanehelp@lastchanceanimalrescue.org
to foster a dog: fosterdogs@lastchanceanimalrescue.org
to foster a cat: fostercats@lastchancehumane.org
Please send to the correct e-mail address so that we can make sure the appropriate person can get back to you quickly. It will be much more efficient if you e-mail to the above address rather than call us. We will get back to you as quickly as we can. The process and needs are changing daily.
Our most vital need right now is money. Monetary donations can be sent to:
Last Chance Animal Rescue 19625 Aquasco Road Aquasco, MD 20608
Or to get it there more immediately, we set up a special hurricane relief paypal account:
www.paypal.com, under hurricanehelp@lastchanceanimalrescue.org.
If you donate items or money, please send an e-mail to hurricancehelp@lastchanceanimalrescue.org with your name, address, phone number and e-mail so that we can provide you with information about the rescue effort once things calm down a little.
