Just voted, quite disappointed.
I voted at Parkville High school at about 8:15 this morning. Not much of a turnout, although the ladies I signed in with said I missed the longer lines. Most of the voters were seniors.

Two people were protesting the touchscreen machines the same way I did during the primaries (that felt encouraging).

Someone sitting behind a different machine seemed to be reviewing what was happening on the smaller machines (saw no attached lines, but wireless is quite likely which raises other security issues).

There was an error that caused the machine to reject my card twice before loading the ballot and I had to raise the issue to get it resolved. It was resolved and then I voted.

The low turnout is disappointing. I suppose we'll know more about turnout as the day goes along.

Another thing I noticed when I was approaching the polling place, no signs out for any candidates other than Bush/Cheney.

I was sincerely hoping to have to wait in line. How often do you hear any of us say something like that?!

At least I got to wear my new black hoodie with the burning Superman logo on the front and look like a 40 year old wanna be delinquent. :)

Only if Freeper stands for:

Fucking Ready to Eject Evil People in an Election Roust

hehe

For those not checking the folder the post was made in, it is in the state by state reporting section in the Maryland specific folder.

3. Your Democratic Signs might have been stolen. Ours were at our poll
here in NC and we had to bring more in. :-(

4. Might help...
If you told us this state. Believe it or not, I haven't memorized the name and location of every high school in the United States.

11. voted at 7:30am
in Olney.

The line was out the door when we got there at 7:15. Not too long a wait (for me, at least). The good news was one fo the poll managers was smart enough to start shuttling people from the main line stretching out the door to the smaller alphabetical lines inside the school. That moved me from the sidewalk right into the gym right away!

14. Good for you!
Now looking back at my location, although there wasn't a long line, the traffic was moving well. As soneone was walking out another was coming in to take their place. Also having very few things on the ballot this time did make voting pretty quick.

I have to work today or I'd suggest some of us locals get together for lunch.

Everyone have a fine day and let's keep our spirits up.

:)

16. I'm glad I waited in line about 30 minutes (Germantown)
I got there 5 minutes before the polls opened and there were already about 40 people there. This is my first vote since moving so I don't have an accurate comparison from a previous election as to weather it is a higher turnout. However, they split the precint and some people had to go to another location or cast provisional ballots there. Maybe they had a large number of new registered voters?

17. My husband voted this morning around 7:30 (m)
At Cedarmere Elementary in Baltimore County. I'm going right after work to vote.

He said that there was no line. The people behind the desk looked at him funny with him wearing his black hoodie. *G* The one issue he had is that they had to try 3 machines before they found one that did not reject the card thing.

I'll post my experience later.

18. i waited in line...
for a good 35 minutes. lots of old people, average age there was probably 65, i kid you not (i guess the retirement homes were polling at my location, Wootton High School in Rockville). i overheard a bunch of them saying that they've "never seen anything like this," regarding the turnout. that is great news, for a state this is definitely Kerry anyway. a cop in line was saying he'd been to quite a few schools today, and found that Wootton was definitely the busiest, and that turnout seems extremely high.

they're talking 90% turnout in Montgomery County, alone! :)

19. Voted in Maryland
I voted at the Annapolis Middle School this morning. I had to wait over an hour. I got there at 7:40 and left at 9 am almost on the dot. The turnout was amazing. I said something to one of the poll workers who said that she had never seen such a turnout.

My husband voted later in the morning and said that he "only" had to wait 45 minutes (of course he had our 2 year old with him so I'm sure it seemed like an eternity) and the poll workers told him the same thing - that turnout had been heavy, continued to be heavy and that they had never seen so many people voting, even in past presidential elections. So take heart.

20. Voted
I voted earlier at Maiden Choice High School in Catonsville. Sure, there wasn't a ton of people there at the moment, but this isn't florida lets not forget. And there were bush-cheney & pipken stuff all over outside too. The republicans in this area are repressed and they feel the need to litter up high schools in order to get their message across. Just because I didnt sprinkle the lawn with Kerry-Edwards literature on election day doesnt mean theyre going to get any less votes!! :-)

21. I just returned from voting and poll work passing literature in Baltimore
I was there around 6:30 a.m. to set up signs and before 7:00 a.m. opening time there were already over 50 people in line waiting to vote.

I distributed literature all day, voted and just came home. I had such a good time! I waited an hour in line to vote. The old-timers said they never saw such a turn-out, ever!

out! My polling place at Stoneleigh School seemed to be Kerry Country - it was awesome to see!
