Cardin Leads Steele by 15 points
This according to a USA Today/Gallup Poll on the race. I got this information via the Hotline. They have the race at 54-39 right now.

1. I guess those Steele ads aren't very effective
I always thought they were stupid and now the numbers back up my thoughts.

2. Steele's ads all try to say he is running against the Washington
inside crowd. Well, that would be his own party which controls Washington. If I am going to vote for someone running against the repubs, I'll vote for the real democrat!!

The ads also seem a bit too slick for me.

3. He does seem slick
I don't know why he thought those ads would work with the Republican base. He's running away from his party and he expects the Republican faithful to run out and vote for him. I guess he thinks it plays well with black voters, but there just aren't enough black voters (I'm one of them) in Maryland to buy into his message and put him over the top.

6. He and Ehrlich already have the Republican faithful in their pockets.
Republicans know this is their first and possibly last opportunity to snatch two statewide offices. If they lose in 2006, they have absolutely no one on their bench that could run and compete statewide. Its do or die for them, so lets not take this one for gratned. This will be toughest election since 1994 for us in MD.

5. Gallup has had some trouble polling state races in the past
These results are great, but we need to stay focused. Keep your eye on the prize folks.

I have this weird feeling in my stomach regarding the gov race. Sorta' like the calm before the storm. I can see Bo Harmon and Ehrlich launching some really negative attacks soon. Stuff that makes their current lies look like a walk in the park.

10. You still have us winning both?
Edited on Sat Oct-07-06 08:39 PM by nickshepDEM
If Ehrlich doesnt get out of the low 40's soon I think he's finished. For an incumbent not to break 45% with less than 5 weeks to go... thats spells bad news.

11. yes
I'm more confident about the Senate race than I was a few weeks ago. I think the political environment in other states will hurt Steele because Republican money will be needed to defend other states that we didn't think we'd really be able to win.
