(Johns Hopkins) Frat suspended over (racist) "Hood" party
Prepare to hurl... :puke:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061031/ap_on_re_us/hopkins_halloween_party

BALTIMORE - Johns Hopkins University has suspended the Sigma Chi fraternity because of a "Halloween in the Hood" party that drew protests by black students.

The invitation to the party, posted on the Web site Facebook, encouraged guests to wear "regional clothing from our locale" with jewelry including "bling bling ice ice, grills" and "hoochie hoops."

The party, held Saturday night at the fraternity house, featured a skeleton pirate hanging on a noose.

Black Student Union members protested the party on Monday, saying the appearance of the image and the language on the invitation highlighted racial tensions at Hopkins and the strained relations between the university and the surrounding community.

A noose?! Hey, they're not that far from Virginia; maybe Sen. Macacawitz needs some like-minded slimeballs to go door to door for him. :sarcasm:

As for "regional clothing from our locale", the locale of the undergrad campus of Johns Hopkins is Homewood, a bit north of downtown Baltimore and as integrated a neighborhood as still exists there. (Everyone I know around there is white.)

Hopkins, though not as well-known as the Ivies or, say, Duke, is a well-reputed school, the kind that produces emerging leaders. These are our emerging leaders?! :scared:

1. Ah, but Hopkins campus borders the "dark section of town"
I went to Hopkins undergrad and we made many a trip to Greenmount Ave to buy liquor and such. Greenmount Ave. served as the dividing line between the Homewood campus area and a decidedly less integrated, pampered area. This may be what these clowns were referring to.

2. I went to Hopkins. I did not like most of the rich repukes that went there.
I don't remember Sigma Chi though. Either way, most kids at that school were obscenely rich and tended to have an "I'm entitled" attitude. Yup, from Hopkins to SAIS to corrupt in 10 years: their ideal path.

3. Darn, it wasn't Sigma Nu.
Hopkins definitely has some ill-mannered undergrads, and they're concentrated in the fraternities (surprise!).

When I was there, they always seemed to be on the verge of getting busted for sexual harassment, and extremely prone to drinking violations. Don't send your kid there, unless s/he's a total loss already.

4. I'm So Proud
To be a Hopkins student. :eyes: Even though I am a part-time grad student at one of the suburban campuses.
