I received this email from ACT for Transit and am forwarding it on to everyone here. The Sender needless to say wants it distributed far and wide.
Dear Purple Line Supporter,
Two years ago, the County Council responded to emails from hundreds of
Purple Line supporters by appropriating $5 million to design the
elevators which will connect the Red Line to the Purple Line in
Bethesda. Next Tuesday (March 11), the council can decide to put up the money
to build this new entrance and put the first shovels in the ground to
build the new light rail line.
Even before the Purple Line opens, these elevators will be a
time-saver for thousands of Metro riders. It will open a new Metro
entrance at the corner of Wisconsin Avenue and Elm Street, bringing
the Red Line closer to the restaurants and movie theaters of Bethesda
Row and the many residents of nearby neighborhoods. For more details,
see:
http://www.innerpurpleline.org/Bethesda.htmThe council's transportation committee voted yesterday to add the $55
million construction cost of the new entrance to the county capital
budget. Please write to the County Council and urge them to fund the
Bethesda south Metro entrance. Be sure to include your home address
in your email. Write to:
