Harris just keeps getting better and better
to watch. Seems he did not bother to provide health care to his campaign workers. Oh and he didn't withhold any taxes on any of them either. He decided they were all contractors.

Harris didn't pay taxes, provide health care for campaign staff

Health care benefits have been a recurring theme for Harris, whose anti-"Obamacare" stance was a key plank in his hard-fought campaign in Congressional District 1. And, after not providing health care for his campaign workers, Harris grabbed national headlines last week when he complained at a House freshman orientation session that his government-subsidized health care would take almost a month to kick in. The complaints were originally reported in Politico.

While employers are not legally mandated to provide health care for workers they classify as employees, they are required to pay part of the Social Security and Medicare taxes assessed of employees -- which can add up quickly, said accountant Garrett Isacco, who has worked with small businesses in the D.C. area for more than 30 years. Independent contractors pay these taxes themselves.

"Some employers would very much not like to do that because it can get quite expensive," Isacco said, adding that the taxes do get paid either way. "At the end of the day it probably evens out; it's just a question of whose pocket it's coming out of. ... For the worker it's definitely better to be an employee." Some workers for the Harris campaign do not appear to qualify as independent contractors.

I wish I could paste the whole article as the Whig is strongly slanted to the right and the contortions are amusing as they try to report this with out making Harris look like he did something wrong.
I want an ethics probe into Harris, ASAP Oh and I can't wait to run int some of the local teabaggers that pushed for his election. He was the only candidate they endorsed.

I didn't much care for Kratovil though I definitely didn't want Harris at all but this is looking to be a fun train wreck to watch.

1. Thanks for reporting on this -- Harris is vile.
He only got elected because voters don't know enough about him.

2. I think he only got elected because
Dems in his district either stayed home or just didn't vote for a Rep. I voted but had to hold my nose to vote for Kratovil but I know of a few that just skipped voting for a congress critter. Maybe next time around a real Dem can run.

Also the teabaggers are pretty active here and they love Harris. They were pretty good at knocking on doors and telling their tales.

3. It's a shame
the rethugs did what they did in MD. I didn't like Kratovil at all. OTOH, as much as I dislike Rethugs, Wayne Gilchrest was A OK. He would take or return my calls, write back (by snail mail) and made an attempt to represent District 1. Kratovil "Didn't have time" for me and I doubt Andy will either but I guarantee one thing. I will be contacting his office daily about a host of issues, mostly about him~

4. I liked Gilchrest too.
He at least believed in science and still won't kiss right wing/teabag ass. He was very good at writing well thought out letters back and did not try to straddle a line. Somewhere I have a 20 page letter from him explaining his position on the Iraq War. I didn't always agree with him but he at least respected the voters intelligence. Kratovil did answer me eventually, usually with a letter explaining what he was on both sides of whatever it was.
We were talking today about whether to waste our time writing to Harris or not. We decided the pain in the ass factor would make it worth writing even if we know he will most likely blow us off. That might be what makes the tea party so effective when they are only at most 30%. They write and call and yell even to those they know won't do what they want.
