Wow. Just stop and consider for a minute the geography and the history that the region "Below Boston" can boast - the Pilgrims, the Adams, Daniel Webster, Abraham Lincoln's ancestors( Samuel Lincoln, whose home is for sale in down town Hingham and if I think to bring my camera on a walk tomorrow I'll post a photo to show the home) who came through Hingham Ma as well as Benjamin Lincoln who accepted the sword of surrender from the British at Yorktown after Cornwallis refused to surrender it to George Washington. I suppose I should add that Bush 41 was also born "below Boston" in Milton MA.
And now we have this little nugget posted on DemocraticUnderground.com - Barack Obama's great grandparents ten times removed were married in Scituate Mass in May 1637 the person who posted the thread on DU got the link from the Scottish paper The Scotsman at this link. The relevant portion:
Using records of births, deaths and marriage it has been possible to trace Obama's family back to his 10-times great-grandparents Edward FitzRandolph and Elizabeth Blossom, who were married in Scituate , Massachusets, in May 1637.
FitzRandolph was one of the Pilgrim fathers, among the first permanent settlers from England to the New World, who had originally come from Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire. He was 27 to his wife's 17 when they wed, and Edward was 77-years-old when he died and Elizabeth 90.
I don't know about anyone else but I'm impressed at what a significant role this region has played in our Nation's history.
