BARNSTABLE, Mass. -- A man who was working at a traveling carnival on Cape Cod has been taken into custody on dozens of outstanding warrants.
Twenty-four-year-old Matthew Johnson of Worcester is also accused of failing to register as a sex offender. He's scheduled to appear today in Barnstable District Court.
Police say Johnson gave the carnival operators a fake social security number when he applied for the job. When the company did a criminal records search, it did not discover Johnson's arrest record.
Police say Johnson has 52 outstanding warrants dating back to 2002 in Worcester Superior Court, on charges ranging form church vandalism to larceny.
Officials say Johnson had been working since Wednesday at the carnival outside the Cape Cod Mall.
