http://smedleyvfp.org/page15/page14/page14.htmlAttention: 3rd and 4th of July parades and BBQ (on the 4th) : All VFP's and their guests Invited!
The "Costs of War" theme was chosen by Samantha VFP and the North Shore Coalition for Peace and Justice at a recent meeting in Ipswich. Smedley Butler and Samantha Smith members and their guests are invited to participate in the Gloucester Horrible's parade on July 3, 2007 (assemble at the Gloucester High School parking lot at 6:00pm) and also the Rockport, Mass 4th of July parade (assemble at Jerden's Lane - Rockport High School, at 6:00pm)
The Annual VFP 4th of July barbecue will be held at Lee's house in Essex, Mass, 12 Desoto Road, (In Essex, 3 miles from Exit 15 on Hwy 128: Proceed 3 miles toward Essex, turn right on Desoto Road, just after coming into town, or Forrest Ave, the very next street, then a right in one block on Desoto. If you miss the turns and come to the Hwy 133 junction, turn around and come back two blocks. We're the green house in the middle of the block at 12 Desoto Rd) The BBQ is on July 4th from 1:00 to 5:30pm. All members and their guests are invited to be part of the VFP contingent at the Rockport Firemans 4th of July parade, assembling at 6:00pm in Rockport (see above, it's only about 10 miles away). (Bring drinks and desert if you want!) Afterwards, stay for the bonfire on the beach! If you come to Gloucester on the 3rd, bring your family and stay for the fireworks over the harbor! (Parade ends around 8:00pm, fireworks at 9:00pm.)
If people want to come for both parades, that's great! The "Costs of War" theme will feature VFP leading the parade with the banner, "Who wants to be the last to die for a Lie", the Smedley and Samantha banners, and any signage you would like to carry, as well as wearing VFP shirts and hats. There will be signs provided, stating the number of casualties in the current Iraq war (troops and civilians), the number of injured, the costs to the local community and state, both in less support for schools and people, and other creative signs, keeping with the theme of the "Costs of War". We hope you can join us for this annual event! We receive tremendous support from the people along the parade route in these communities, and won first prize a few years ago in the community and civic division with the theme, "Veterans Ask Why?" (See pictures at www.massvfp.org ) We need you! Please consider helping us have a good showing for the peace community, here on the North Shore.
We expect most people will attend the barbecue on the 4th, and then participate in the Rockport parade. If you can come the night before, on the 3rd, we'll see you in Gloucester, also!! (Bring drinks or dessert to the BBQ on the 4th, other food provided!)
uhc note: Hope to see ya there.
